6 down 2 to go! Thursday, July 29, 2010

My bid to become pro was enhanced last week, as I hit form at the right time to put myself in the top 8 of the P.I.O.S, with only 2 events to play.

As mentioned before, and for those of you who do not know, the top 8 at the end of 8 events played at Pontins Prestayn gain entry to the main tour, bare in mind there are 136 top quality players fighting for that honor, some former pros too.

My first round was against Anthony Mcgill, I won this 4-1 and had a century as well as a modest break of 72, a good start as Anthony was Scottish Junior champ and one time junior pot black finalist.

The next round also went in my favor beating Alex Taubman 4-2, again I notched up a couple of notable breaks, 90 and 53.

I was going to have to keep this momentum going to sustain a charge for the big points, with only a few events left its vital to score heavily and leave nothing to chance. Round 3 was a match up that had been played time and time again against Kyren Wilson, breaks of 101 and 53 secured a place in the last 16 as I won the match up 4-2.

Ben Harrison was between me and another quarter final, still cueing well I hit home with another two breaks over 50. This was a closer affair finishing 4-3 in my favor.

Onto the quarters and confidence growing frame by frame, I would have to be at my very best to beat then current number 1 and P.I.O.S event 1 winner Bjorn Hanveer. I really was in form as I took this match without dropping a frame winning 5-0

I believed I could win this now, having been here before, against Bjorn in fact at the start of the season. I would have to play good friend Jack Liszowski though. We have had some great matches over the years namely the Pot black final but he hit the ground running going 3 nil up. I clawed a couple of frames back but it was not to be. I eventually lost 5-3 (well done to Jack).

I had much to celebrate having rocketed into the top 8 so its not all bad. Looking forward now event 7.
