Mitchell Mann won the prestigious Eckington open battling his way through a quality field of 61 players who had traveled from as far as Darlington to the West Midlands to the Sheffield based annual tournament.
The Castle Vale youngster only dropped 5 frames on route to the final and 3 of those were in the semis. He raced through the first two rounds without dropping a frame against Lee Morris and Tony Buckley. winning both 3-0.
In the quarter final the 16 year old came up against Wayne Wooton from Sheffield. Despite going a frame behind the former Junior Pot Black champion showed his determination by winning 3 frames in a row to put him into the semis. Grimsbys Jamie Barrat was up next and in a quality match Mann took the deciding frame winning 4 frames to 3 including a 57 break.
Former Pro Ashley Walker from Mansfield was his opponent in the final. Walker showed how well he was playing when he beat top 65 main tour ranked Lee Spick. Walker coming from behind to defeat his friend and practice partner by 3 frames to one. Next up for Walker was International and ex pro Lee Page, he to went the same way as Spick this time by 4 frames to 2.
Walker looked in control in the final winning the first easily but after missing a red in the 2nd the Riley's based youngster took 4 frames in a row to claim the £350 prize money and follow the likes of Nigel Bond and this years Paul Hunter Scholar winner Adam Duffy to be on the coveted trophy.
Jonathon Baguely from Leeds took the £100 high break prize with an excellent 120.
