Star Xing Pai Players Tour Championship Event one Saturday, September 4, 2010

A new tournament has been formed with the help of Barry Hearn and consists of 12 events played over the season, leading up to a televised conclusion.

The events bring together some of the top stars in the game and up and coming amateurs all battling it out for a top prize of £10,000. Six events will take place at the snooker academy in Sheffield the other six in Europe.

For Mitchell the first event could not have a got off to a better start. He was drawn against former world champion and world number 7, Shaun Murphy in the first round.

Mitch got off to a flyer going 2 nil up with a break of 73 before Shaun Murphy leveled at 2-2. A second 73 edged Mitch in front once more only for Murphy to draw level again. In a close deciding final frame a green to black clearance saw Mitch win it 4 - 3 and set up a second round clash with Andrew Higginson.

"I can't believe I won, I played well and Shaun missed a couple of balls," said Mitch. "I enjoyed the match and these PTC events will give me a lot of experience against players like Shaun. All of these new events in snooker are for the best."

However Shaun went on to say "It goes to show snooker's got great depth. Just because a player is not on TV, it doesn't mean he's not a worthy adversary."

Well done Mitch!

The second round appeared to be going Mitchell's way also, he stormed into a 3 -1 lead. Higginson found great form though to level with a 129 and 97 (missed black for max). The decider could have gone either way but it was Higginson's day here, a fluked pink meant he cleared to clinch it.

Had Mitch won he would have had Stephen Lee in the third round. It had been a great experience for Mitch and he hopes to compete in as many of these events as possible.
